Andrew Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Headed to NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships

2015 Feb 27

Andrew Bauer will travel to Shenandoah, Texas with his WPI men's swimming and diving 800-yard freestyle relay team to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, March 20. It is the first relay team in school history to earn an invitation to the national meet.

The men's 800 yard freestyle relay quartet of David Smallwood, Alex Powers, Nathan Hughes and Andrew Bauer posted its qualifying time of 6:45.47 just this past Thursday en route to winning the event for the second straight year at the NEWMAC Championships. The time was also a school and pool record for the Engineers.

WPI last sent a men's swimmer to the NCAA Championships in 2007 when All-American and Hall of Famer member Joel Rousseau competed for a fourth straight year as a senior. Women's diver Veronica Nikolaki will attempt to qualify and join the men's relay team at this year's NCAA championships when she competes this Friday and Saturday at the regional meet at Springfield. The junior has qualified for nationals the previous two seasons.
