Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Named NEWMAC Softball Player of the Week (Mar. 14)

2016 Apr 5

WPI sophomore Ama Biney was selected as the NEWMAC Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 13.

Biney was simply amazing for WPI during the Engineers spring break trip to Central Florida. After playing in the NCAA basketball tournament the Friday of departure, the sophomore batted a jaw-dropping .645 as the Crimson and Gray posted a 8-2 record. Biney registered a hit in every contest, 20 in all, including homers versus Penn State Behrend and Plymouth State.

The centerfielder also amassed four doubles and a pair of triples en route to registering a 1.097 slugging percentage. She also scored 16 runs, drove in another seven, was a perfect 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts and successfully handled all 16 of her defensive chances, including a key assist at the plate to end the bottom of the sixth inning of a tie game versus St. Joseph's (ME) in a game that the Engineers won in the seventh inning.
