Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Hauls in Numerous Weekly Honors

Ama Biney has the distinction of being the first ever NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. Later in the day it was revealed that the local product earned a spot on the NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll. She was named to the WACBA Weekly Honor Roll.

Biney, also named WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week, averaged 14.3 points per game in a 2-1 week for the Engineers and was named the Worcester City Tournament MOP. The junior added 12 rebounds, 16 steals and five blocks in just 71 minutes. She bookended her week with a 16 and 18-point performances against UMass Dartmouth and Worcester State while averaging 13.5 points and totaling six steals in tournament play. In an efficient performance, Biney shot 75 percent from the field and canned all three of her free throws for nine points to go with five steals, four rebounds and a block in 13 minutes played versus Becker.
